In case you haven’t seen it a clip from my video audition for a new Canadian TV Show “Cover Me Canada” made it onto the commercial. I haven’t received word on whether I will be on the actual show, but it is pretty exciting none-the-less. I recorded this off of my TV with a video camera so forgive the quality. The version the show posted has geo-tagging restrictions on it, otherwise I would post it.
Soulscape Episode 8. Videos in this series starting with Episode 4 were created using 100% sounds from my flute; right down to the beat. If it doesn’t sound like flute that’s because we altered/toyed with the sound until it sounded like something else (a bass, a drum etc.) You can check out a bit of how we did that in Episode 4. No one (who I am aware of) has done music with flute in such a way. I am happy to be innovative in that respect. Plus, it has been a lot of fun.
My entry into CBC’s “Cover Me Canada” contest. They haven’t released a lot of information except that you need to submit an audition video. We took Alannah Myles’ classic rock hit Black Velvet and turned it into a hip hop instrumental.
I had this instrumental of After 7′s take on the Hall and Oates song but never heard either version. So, I went into the studio with the track and made up my own melody. Watch out for a quote of Jodeci’s “Freek’N You” near the end. It just seemed that’s where the bridge should go so that’s where I took it.
This is the newest Soulscape episode. Once again, we made every sound solely using my flute.

We made all these sounds with flute except for one lonely snare that comes in around the middle. These are definitely pushing the envelope of the scope of what the flute is, and is capable of. I will be posting Episode 6 in a couple of weeks … Episode 6 will be the next level of that push.
